E.Comp John Theophilus Jenkins Davies – ProvGSN

Meet E.Comp. John Theophilus Jenkins Davies, the Provincial Grand Scribe Nemiah of the Province. His appointment to this esteemed post came as a wonderful surprise when he was asked by the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, E.Comp D Gerald Rowbottom. Eager to seize the opportunity to meet companions from various parts of the Province, John readily accepted the position, determined to repay the GSupt’s faith and confidence in him.

John’s Masonic journey began when he was initiated into the friendly Llanfair Lodge No. 7353 in 1984. The warmth of the welcome he received was likely due to the Lodge being formed by former players of Glamorgan Wanderers Rugby Club, a team he had been a part of for over a decade. His dedication and commitment to Freemasonry led him to be installed as Master of the Lodge in 1992. Subsequently, upon moving to Swansea for work, he became a joining member of Ionic Lodge No. 6626 in 1993, following his brother-in-law’s footsteps. John was thrilled to serve as the Master of Ionic Lodge during its fiftieth Anniversary in 1997.

His Masonic affiliations extend to multiple Lodges, as he is also a joining member of Lord Swansea Lodge No. 8364, Hendre Lodge No. 3250, Lodge of Benevolence No. 7305, and a Founder member of Welsh Installed Masters Lodge No. 9857 (London Metropolitan). John, being a Welsh speaker, joined Cyfrinfa Dewi Sant Lodge No. 9067 and was a Founder member of Cyfrinfa Tair Sir Lodge No. 10018 in the Province of West Wales.

In the Craft, John had the privilege of serving the Province as an Active Officer on three occasions. He held the prestigious roles of Provincial Grand Sword Bearer in 1998, Provincial Junior Grand Warden in 2008, and Provincial Grand Charity Steward from 2009 until 2017. The latter role brought him immense satisfaction as he and the brethren in the Province worked tirelessly to exceed the targets set by the Festivals in 2010 and 2021, surpassing all expectations.

Recognizing his dedication and contributions, John was appointed Past Assistant Sword Bearer in Grand Lodge in 2009, and later promoted to Past Junior Grand Deacon in March 2017, a promotion that was bestowed to commemorate the Tercentenary of Grand Lodge, making it the only promotion given in the Province of South Wales.

John’s journey in the Royal Arch began when he was Exalted into Ionic Chapter No. 6626, Swansea, in 1987. Over the years, he served as First Principal in 2003 and again in 2007, and eventually held the position of Scribe E of the Chapter from 2018 until 2023. In the Royal Arch, he also served the Province as Acting Provincial Grand Standard Bearer in 2006, and in 2016, he was promoted to Past Grand Scribe N.

John’s passion for Freemasonry extended to several other Orders. In the Mark Degree, he was Advanced in Brychan Mark Lodge No. 1725, becoming Master in 2021, and a founder member of Dewi Sant Marc Lodge No. 1914, where he served as Master in 2013. His dedication earned him appointments as Acting Provincial Junior Overseer in 2015 and Acting Provincial Junior Warden in 2019. He was also appointed as Past Assistant Grand Director of Ceremonies in Mark Grand Lodge in 2020.

In the Royal Ark Mariners, John was elevated in Brychan Ark Mariners Lodge No. 1725, becoming Commander in 2015, and received the honor of Provincial Royal Ark Mariners Grand Rank in 2021.

Further expanding his Masonic journey, he was perfected in Morganwg Chapter No.70 in 2013 within the Rose Croix, and in the Order of Royal and Select Masters, he was received and acknowledged in Glyntaf Council (Caerphilly) in 2014 and served as Thrice Illustrious Master in 2020 and 2021. His commitment was acknowledged with his appointment as District Grand Manciple in 2021.

In the Order of The Allied Masonic Degrees, John was admitted into Dinas Council No.140 in 2016, where he became Worshipful Master in 2023, and was later appointed as the District Grand Tyler in the same year.

John expresses profound gratitude for the opportunity to meet companions from various Masonic Centres in the Province. He looks forward to representing the Most Excellent Grand Superintendent and providing unwavering support in all his endeavors.
