Father Installs Son as First Principal of Afan Chapter, Port Talbot

On Monday 10th November 2025, a truly historic and heartfelt occasion took place at the Installation Convocation of Afan Chapter No. 833, held at Port Talbot Masonic Hall. A large assembly of Companions gathered to witness this significant and emotional event, marking a proud milestone in the Chapter’s distinguished history.

The Chapter was honoured by the presence of the Deputy Grand Superintendent, E.Comp. Martyn P. Wake, who attended in an official capacity accompanied by his Provincial team. Their attendance added great dignity, splendour, and significance to the evening’s proceedings.

The Installing Principal, E.Comp. Dillwyn Evans, carried out his duties with exemplary skill and sincerity as he Installed his son, E.Comp. Richard Evans, as First Principal of the Chapter. This touching moment between father and son was warmly received by all present and will be long remembered as a highlight in the Chapter’s annals.

Further distinction was brought to the occasion by the attendance of E.Comp. R. Michael Coombes, Past Deputy Grand Superintendent, and E.Comp. David J. Suter, Past Provincial Grand Haggai, both of whom are highly respected Companions, with E.Comp. Suter also being a valued member of Afan Chapter.

The formal Installation of the new Principals was the highlight of the evening:

  • E.Comp. Richard Evans – Installed as First Principal
  • E.Comp. Colin Stevenson – Installed as Second Principal
  • Comp. Hugh Jarrett – Installed as Third Principal

The convocation was a true celebration of companionship, and continuity.

The festive board that followed was filled with pride, warmth, and fraternal good humour, rounding off an evening that perfectly embodied the spirit of Royal Arch Masonry.
