W. Bro. Philip Hanney was initiated into Cwm Rhondda Lodge No. 9692 in June 2003 and was installed as its Worshipful Master in 2008, returning to the Master’s Chair once again in 2026.

He became a joining member of St Gwynno Lodge No. 8599 in 2004, serving as its Worshipful Master in 2008 and again in 2024. He currently continues to serve the Lodge as Director of Ceremonies and Preceptor.

Philip is also a founder member of St John of Jerusalem Lodge No. 10024, where he currently serves as Lodge Almoner. He is also a member of Hendre Lodge No. 3250 and Lord Swansea Lodge No. 8364.

Philip’s Masonic journey has also extended into Royal Arch Masonry. In 2008, he was exalted into Adare Chapter No. 9247, where he was installed as First Principal in 2017. He is a founder member of Cwm Rhondda Chapter No. 9692, serving as First Principal in 2019 and again in 2020. He currently serves the Chapter as Director of Ceremonies.

Away from Freemasonry, Philip is a proud father of two daughters, grandfather to three grandchildren and great-grandfather to one great-grandson, all of whom he loves dearly. When time allows, Philip has a real passion for motorcycles, enjoying the freedom and camaraderie that comes with life on two wheels.

Reflecting on his appointment as Provincial Junior Grand Warden, Philip said:

“I am honoured to be appointed as the Provincial Junior Grand Warden. I look forward to supporting the Provincial Grand Master whenever called upon, and I am very much looking forward to meeting and getting to know brethren throughout the Province in my new role.”

Philip’s appointment is testimony to his many years of dedicated service to Freemasonry, both within his Lodges and Chapters, and he looks forward to taking on his new Provincial responsibilities with enthusiasm and commitment.
