The Duke of York Lodge to host a visit of the Irish Travelling Lodge Glittering Star

The Duke of York Lodge No. 2453 is to host a visit of the Irish Travelling Lodge Glittering Star No. 322, of the Irish Constitution at our meeting on Tuesday, 19th April 2016 at approximately 6.00pm where they will present an exemplification of an Irish First Degree Ceremony.

The Lodge Glittering Star No.322 is a peripatetic Lodge, founded on 3rd May 1759 in Kilkenny, Ireland by the 29th Regiment of Foot. This Regiment has a most colourful history, having been raised “en route to the American colony” where it saw service which included the Boston massacre! They are the Mother Lodge of the Grand Lodge of Massachusetts and were presented with a Solid Silver 24inch Gauge which they still use today.

Glittering Star is the second oldest Lodge still in existence in the world that works under a military warrant and has recently celebrated its 250th anniversary. Its ritual has remained unchanged since the date of its inception so it should be very interesting indeed.

The format of the evening is as follows:

6.00 pm: Visiting Brethren to be seated by 6.05pm

6.05 pm: Lodge Glittering Star No.322 to open, and Exemplify a 1st Degree Ceremony

To receive communications and to transact any other business for the good of Freemasonry

To Close the Lodge

8.00 pm: Festive Board. (3 course meal – cost £14.00)

Our Irish guests will have travelled far and we would welcome as many visiting South Wales Masons as possible to join us to greet them and make this a special occasion.

Yours sincerely and faithfully,
Alan Gardener PAGSuptWks APGM
