Provincial Grand Master’s address for the Provincial Grand Committee Meeting – 03 May 2024

Brethren and Companions,

I hope you are doing well. It is so good to communicate with you again through this medium. This method of communication is cost-effective, as it is approximately 90% cheaper than hiring a physical space, which we used to do in the past. You have expressed to me and the Joint Executive that this is your preferred choice instead of driving around the Province. I would like to express my gratitude to the Webmaster for his skill and willingness to assist us in this endeavour. Also, for helping us make the Reports available on the Provincial website before this meeting.

Over 100 members of our Province travelled to London last week to show their support for the Brethren and Companions who were being appointed to and promoted in Grand Rank. It’s noteworthy that South Wales is the only Province or District that attracts such solid support, and the Pro 1st Grand Principal acknowledged this during his officiation at Supreme Grand Chapter. This support always fills me with immense pride, and I extend my heartfelt thanks to all those who were able to offer their support.

Our governing strategy, formed in 2022 under the Pro Grand Master’s leadership, aims to solidify our reputation as a force for good in our communities and society. We want to be a thriving organisation that people aspire to join. This is not a box-ticking exercise or a trend to follow, but a genuine effort to shape our approach for the coming years.

The Deputy Provincial Grand Master is leading the development and delivery of the 2023 Executive Strategy for South Wales. The strategy takes a short- and medium-term approach to support post-pandemic transitional recovery and growth. The first phase of the strategy is called “Revive, Refocus, Rebuild”. We have already seen positive outcomes, with an increase in membership numbers in both the Craft and Royal Arch in 2024.

It is important to emphasise that everyone should contribute to this work. It has been said numerous times in the past that age is not a barrier to contribution. Whether you are 18 or 100, we welcome you to the team if you have something valuable to offer. If you wish to share your expertise and time, please contact the relevant member of the Joint Executive.

Our veterans are valuable members of our fraternity. The Provincial Office is now proactively checking records to identify Brethren and Companions who have upcoming anniversaries. I encourage Secretaries and Scribes E. to collaborate with the Provincial Office to ensure that no veterans are overlooked so that appropriate celebrations can be planned.

This morning, the Masonic Benevolent Fund of South Wales held its Annual Court at Bridgend. The Chairman announced that the construction work for a new Provincial building will start in the coming weeks. This building will serve as the headquarters for the MBF, as well as the administration of the Craft and Royal Arch in this Province. I am eagerly looking forward to the opportunity to break ground on the new development. Visitors to Bridgend Masonic Hall will notice a lot of activity over the next few months. This is an exciting development for all of us to follow with great interest.

I would like to take this opportunity to express my gratitude towards the Office Team, led by the Provincial Grand Secretary and Scribe E., the ceremonial Team, led by the Provincial Grand Director of Ceremonies, and all members of the Joint Executive for their dedicated efforts and contributions to our Province.

The next Festival will conclude in 2032 and W.Bro. Robert Payne, APGM, will soon be releasing information accordingly. We will also celebrate the joyous event of our Tercentenary in 2027. The Tercentenary lead is W.Bro. Dr. Akram Baig, APGM. Two important areas that we can join together and help those less fortunate than ourselves.

We are excited for the most anticipated event of the year where we will acknowledge and promote members of the Province. The event will take place on Saturday, 29 June at Barry MEMO. Please extend our gratitude to your families and loved ones for their unwavering support, and most importantly, enjoy your Freemasonry!
