Deputy Provincial Grand Master VW Bro Roy Woodward, whilst officiating at Breaksea Lodge Installation, invited W Bro David Westall, Most Excellent Grand Superintendent, to assist in unveiling the very first Blue Plaque on a Masonic Centre in South Wales, at Barry. VW Bro Roy Woodward said, “It is my pleasant duty to unveil this Blue Plaque and it is David’s job to put it up!”

WBro David Westall is the Chairman of the Barry Masonic Hall Trust and was delighted and honoured to accept that challenge. The Blue Plaque will be proudly displayed on the external elevation of Barry Masonic Hall in Broad Street Barry from noon on Sunday 15th January 2017.

The Blue Plaque was created by Sign of The Times Limited who were able to manufacture and hand paint it over the holiday period to arrive in time for Breaksea Lodge Installation. It displays the Provincial Crest, the Tercentenary dates 1717 -2017, and features the main words, “Freemasons have held meetings in Barry since 1890”.

The Worshipful Master WBro Kevin Hearne said, “I wish to thank Sign of the Times for their craftsmanship and professionalism in pulling out all the stops to deliver the Blue Plaque in time for our ceremony.”

The Blue Plaque is part of the South Wales Provincial initiatives during the Tercentenary Celebrations of 300 years of the United Grand Lodge of England. It is hoped that all 22 Masonic Centres throughout South Wales will wish to proudly show the heritage of Freemasonry to the wider community.

The next Blue Plaque is due to be unveiled by the Provincial Grand Master VW Bro Gareth Jones at Services Lodge in Penarth on Thursday 19th January.
