An evening with Professor John Dickie, author of ‘The Craft’

The Craft – How the Freemasons Made the Modern World

Cardiff Masonic Hall (and online via live steam)

+++ POSTPONED +++

A unique chance to spend an evening with author, historian and academic Professor John Dickie and discuss his insights into the Craft. In this event for both Masons and non-Masons, renowned author and historian, Professor Dickie, will talk about his book ‘The Craft – How the Freemasons Made the Modern World’.

The book has been described by The Times (London) as ‘a superb book that reads like an adventure novel. It’s informative, fascinating and often very funny. Dickie recounts the history of freemasonry by breaking it down into beautifully written stories rooted in places crucial to the organisation. The depth of research is awe-inspiring, but what really makes this book is the author’s visceral understanding of what constitutes a good story’

John is Professor of Italian Studies at University College London (UCL). He is an internationally recognised specialist on many aspects of Italian history and his books have been translated into more than twenty languages.

Born in Dundee in 1963, John was brought up in Leicestershire and educated at Loughborough Grammar School. He won a place at Pembroke College, Oxford, graduating in 1986 with a First in Modern Languages. He subsequently gained an MA and a DPhil at Sussex University. Since 1993 he has taught at UCL.

After the talk there will be time for Prof. Dickie to sign copies of his book.

Advance registration to attend this event is mandatory.

“The Craft is a surprising and enthralling exploration of a movement that not only helped to forge modern society, but still has substantial contemporary influence. With 400,000 members in Britain, over a million in the USA, and around six million across the world, understanding the role of Freemasonry is as important now as it has ever been.”
