Family Tradition Continues: Father Installs his Son at RP St John Charles Lodge

R.P. St John Charles Lodge No. 6466 held its annual Installation Ceremony on Thursday, 16th October 2025, at Swansea Masonic Hall.

The Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro. Timothy R. Clark, was the Executive Officer on duty, accompanied by his Provincial Escort, W.Bro. Robert L. Cook, ProvAGDC, and W.Bro. Kevin R. Lippiatt, ProvGStwd.

With over 150 brethren in attendance including 25 Grand Lodge Officers and 11 active Provincial Grand Lodge Officers the temple and dining hall were filled to capacity, an unmistakable testament to the anticipation and excitement surrounding the evening’s event.

The Installing Master for the evening was W. Bro. Paul C. Bunyan, PAGDC, who had the distinct honour and privilege of installing his son, Bro. James A. Bunyan, into the Chair of King Solomon – just as his late father, W. Bro. J. Colin Bunyan, had done for him on 21st October 2004.

W.Bro. Paul is a respected, dedicated, and much-loved Freemason, well known throughout the Province for his warmth, good humour, and infectious enthusiasm.

A father installing his son is always a poignant and joyful occasion, filled with love, laughter, and immense pride, and this evening was no exception. The packed temple bore witness to an unforgettable ceremony. The impressive procession into the temple, larger and grander than usual, set the tone perfectly for what proved to be a truly special evening.

When W.Bro. Paul was invited to occupy the Chair of King Solomon to install his son, the atmosphere in the temple reached new heights. The ceremony itself was conducted with exceptional precision and sincerity, a day that both father and son will surely remember for the rest of their lives.

Congratulations to W.Bro. James A. Bunyan on attaining the Chair of King Solomon, an occasion of great significance for the Bunyan family and for the Lodge.

Unfortunately, his grandfather, W. Bro. Colin Bunyan, only had the privilege of seeing his grandson initiated, during which he presented the Working Tools. However, one cannot help but feel that he was looking down from the Grand Lodge above — a very proud man and Mason indeed.

The Festive Board which followed was nothing short of outstanding. The atmosphere was electric, laughter and conversation filled the hall, and smiles could be seen on every face. With the dining room at full capacity, it was a wonderful reflection of the spirit and unity that defines not only the Lodge, but Freemasonry as a whole.

The evening was further honoured by the presence of a number of distinguished guests, including: W.Bro. R. Michael Coombes, Assistant Provincial Grand Master; V.W.Bro. Paul R. Clement OStJ, Most Excellent Grand Superintendent; V.W.Bro. Dr. Paul R. Calderwood; Past Assistant Provincial Grand Masters, W.Bro. Stephen Harries, W.Bro. Marc Lewis and W.Bro. Kelvin Jones; W.Bro. Ben Gait, Assistant Grand Secretary; W.Bro T.R. Eirian Jones; W.Bro Simon K.S. Daniel, Second Provincial Grand Principle and W.Bro Christian Uhmann, Past Grand Principle, Montpellier, France.

They were joined by a large retinue of Grand Officers and Acting Provincial Officers, whose attendance added further distinction to what was, without doubt, an evening to remember.
