Strong Growth as Singleton Lodge Initiates Six New Members

Singleton Lodge No. 8399, in Swansea, welcomed six new members at its meeting on Monday, 17th November 2025, making it a particularly memorable evening for the Lodge. The candidates included several local men as well as a university student who first made contact through the Lodge’s website. As a member of the UGLE Universities Scheme, Singleton Lodge continues to draw interest from younger people who are curious about Freemasonry and looking to join a welcoming and active Lodge.

The meeting was also attended by a number of prominent visitors: Assistant Provincial Grand Master, W.Bro Tim Clark, an honorary member of Singleton Lodge, along with W.Bro Stephen Fearn, the RCG4 Co-ordinator for the Universities Scheme and W.Bro Dr Sam Williams, the Operational Lead for the Universities Scheme in South Wales. Their presence reflected the importance of the work Singleton Lodge continues to carry out within the Scheme.

While initiating six candidates in one meeting might once have been unusual, it is something Singleton Lodge has become accustomed to. Since joining the Universities Scheme in 2008, the Lodge has often conducted multiple ceremonies in a single evening. This ongoing level of activity shows the Lodge’s commitment and the continued interest it receives from those wishing to join the Craft.

A particularly encouraging aspect of the evening was the age of the new members. Three were in their early twenties and the eldest was 35, bringing fresh energy and enthusiasm to the Lodge. At a time when Freemasonry has seen an ageing membership, the arrival of younger candidates is a positive sign and suggests that Freemasonry continues to appeal to new generations.

Ceremonies of this size require preparation, and thanks go to those who helped the meeting run smoothly. The Worshipful Master, Wardens, Deacons and Stewards, all “Light Blues” and engaged with the Province’s vibrant Young Mason’s network, played central roles in conducting the ceremonies, while the Director of Ceremonies ensured that everything was well organised. Their efforts, together with the support of the wider Lodge, contributed to a successful and enjoyable evening which continued at the after-proceedings.

The initiation of six new members marks an important moment for Singleton Lodge and underlines the ongoing strength of Freemasonry within the local community.
