Our guest speaker, Robert Jones MBE

Scrum-half Robert Jones followed in the footsteps of Gareth Edwards, becoming only the second Welsh No. 9 to win more than 50 international caps.
He toured Australia with The British & Irish Lions in 1989, featuring in all three Test matches, and repeated that achievement four years later when he joined the squad bound for New Zealand.
At club level, Jones represented Swansea, Bristol, Cardiff, and the Barbarians, and he also appeared for the Lions in the 1986 IRB centenary match against a Rest of the World XV.
His ongoing duel with Australian scrum-half Nick Farr-Jones during the 1989 tour remains one of the defining images of that Lions series.
In 1994, Jones played for Western Province in South Africa’s Currie Cup, forging a notable half-back partnership with Springbok fly-half Joel Stransky.
He retired from international rugby in 1995.
