Goose and Gridiron Tavern, 1717
London, 1717, a dark, overcrowded, and often unwelcoming city, restless with the murmurs of discontent and the ever-present shadow of treason.
In a modest room above the Goose and Gridiron Tavern, a small gathering of Freemasons met with a bold purpose: to unite their individual Lodges and secure the future of Freemasonry. Sparse records preserve only the names of those who attended, but history would come to mark their meeting as a turning point.
Yet unity was far from assured. Strongly held opinions and differing visions threatened to fracture the fragile negotiations. Would Freemasonry endure in its established form, or would it falter at this critical moment?
The answer may seem straightforward with the benefit of hindsight, but the path to it was anything but simple.
This performance is presented by the Monmouthshire Provincial Theatre Group for all who have an interest in Freemasonry, whether members or curious observers.
