Brethren, further to the Provincial Blog posting of 3rd March concerning the Bridgend Regalia Bank set up by W Bro Hugh Thomas, we have placed an updated listing on the Hall Notice Board and on this internet location: www.silvabel.com/4194/regalia.pdf

The stock has been increased with the addition of several Rose Croix (31 & 32) and Order St John items as well as some more Craft and HRA regalia. Almost all of it is in excellent condition and some quite unused.

There is a particularly nice and barely worn Double-Breasted Dinner Suit. (Jacket:Chest 46 – Trousers: Waist 36, Inside Leg 31). Also some white Gloves in reasonable condition and Ties for OSM and QCCC

The Brethren of the Associated Engineers Lodge, (W Bro Phillip Aubrey, WM), have also expressed interest and will be adding some of their unwanted regalia to the stocks. W Bro Hugh is most grateful for this additional support for his initiative.

Should you wish to donate your redundant items please give us a call. We will accept items from any Orders. Our contact details are shown at the bottom of the listing page. As the three of us are in several Lodges/Orders/Good Neighbours each of us is at the Hall sometimes several times a week to accept items and to provide viewing.

The Secretary of the Masonic Library and Museum Group, Roger Boylan reports …

URGENT: A significant number of Lodge founders’ jewels has been removed from the Surbiton Masonic Centre in Surrey. It is possible that items will appear for sale – please provide details if you do see anything to: Alistair Lees at inluminluce@googlemail.com

This sadly follows the recent report of a similar theft of Jewels from Twickenham Masonic Hall. Usually the Jewels taken contain precious metals. With the value of the gold in some Jewels approaching £1000 PER JEWEL it is essential that special measures are taken to protect such Jewels within your Province. Advice from the Police suggests the Jewels are quickly melted down, thus destroying part of our Masonic heritage for ever. Please take immediate action before it’s too late.

Brethren,

When St Cecilia Lodge last performed this ceremony it met with general acclaim. However there were many brethren who could not be there on that night, including our own Worshipful Master. It has been decide therefore to repeat the ceremony.

W.Bro Byron Butler reports …

Worshipful Brother John Morgan, Master of St. Quentin’s Lodge no. 4778 for 2012/13, meeting at Cowbridge , during his mastership raised a significant sum for charitable purposes.

One cause he and his Brethren decided to support was the well-being of the residents of our residential complex at Cowbridge, Geoffrey Ash Court.

On Dydd Dewi Sant, he visited the Court and made a presentation to the residents on behalf of the Lodge, which was graciously received by Mrs. Beti Bennett, the senior resident(mother of our Brother, Vince Bennett PM. of 4778 et al).

Pictured with Brother John and Beti are Mrs. Mavis Ashford, Brother Dick Edwards and Mrs. Julia Keates, our manager at the Court.

As the pictures indicate, residents were enjoying a celebratory cup of tea with Welsh cakes and Bara Bryth to mark Saint David’s Day, with resident Mavis really entering into the occasion in traditional style.

This is a good indication of the happy lifestyle the residents enjoy with good company and in safe and secure surroundings.

The Board and the residents would welcome masons and their families to visit by arrangement to see the good work for themselves, which frequently appears to be one of the best kept secrets of our Province.

Our Manager, Mrs. Julia Keates would welcome enquiries on 01446 773933.

W. Bro Sylvester Crowley writes …

Towards the end of last year W Bro Hugh Thomas (Treasurer Llangeinor Lodge 4194) conceived the idea of starting a Regalia Bank here in Bridgend. The purpose of the venture is to re-cycle unwanted regalia from ANY of our Masonic Orders. As you will have noticed, much of this material grows more expensive each year. It is hoped a local stock of re-cycled regalia will prove beneficial for Brethren. Aside from the expense of new regalia one often longs for the quality of years past. Indeed, for some Freemasons, the ability to wear regalia from a Brother no longer with us can bring strong feelings of continuity with past endeavours, and carries with it much respect for departed merit.
Within our catchment area will be promoted Brethren and a significant number of our dependants, many of whom will have unwanted Masonic items. For many the thought of discarding these belongings is unpleasant. The opportunity of donating regalia back to the Orders might be very attractive.

These stock items are not sold in the strict sense of the word. Instead, a reasonable donation is invited, within the means of a Brother, for the account of the Bridgend Temple Building Fund. The proceeds therefore are of benefit for all who use our premises.

W Bro Phillip Aubrey and I support W Bro Hugh fully and we try to publicise this matter in our various Masonic groups. The stock list is updated regularly with copies placed on the Temple notice board and on this private slot on the web:

www.silvabel.com/4194/regalia.pdf

At the bottom of the Stock List will be found our personal contact details.
We look forward to hearing from you……..
Sincerely and fraternally,

LLANGEINOR LODGE 4194 ~ BRIDGEND
Wednesday 6th March ~ Tyle 6.30pm.
Masonic Hall, Coychurch Road, Bridgend CF31 2AP

W Bro Roger Mapstone, PPrJGW, Provincial Grand Orator will give a talk entitled:
“The Journey Begins” An in depth consideration of the First Degree ceremony.
There will be a short period following the talk for questions and discussion.

We have had good response but I extend again on behalf of everyone at Llangeinor a warm welcome to everyone, especially for those Brethren who have joined Freemasonry in recent years. The 1st Degree is where we all started off and so often it passed over our heads in a cloud of mystery, puzzlement and perhaps a little embarrassment. W Bro Roger hopes to let us view the ceremony with a fresh outlook and to offer some meaning to the entire presentation of the Degree. For those of us who have been in the Craft for a while I hope we too will see things in a new light and that this will bring greater pleasure for us when we witness future ceremonies.

Senior Brethren, please try to encourage your junior members EA and FC and even those recently Raised to come along and hear what Roger has to tell us……

The Festive Board main menu will be Steak & Ale Pie and vegetables.
A Fish course is offered as an alternative upon previous arrangement.
The meal cost is £11.50 (excluding drinks)

Reservations may be made with either Alan or me and pay the dining fee to Treasurer W Bro Hugh Thomas on the night.

NEXT WEDNESDAY IS ……Final reservation day for dining: 27th February
(I am sorry to be unable to pick up all the visitor dining fees but if I win the Lottery – I will <smiles>)

Bro Alan Reeks (Asst Sec) alanreeks@sky.com
W Bro Sylvester Crowley (Master) crowley4194@silvabel.com or 07827 675 190

VISITING ENTERED APPRENTICES AND FELLOW CRAFT MUST BRING AN APRON AS WE HAVE BUT LIMITED SUPPLIES

Sincerely and fraternally,
