A sub committee of the2021  Festival Events  Committee was set up in the Swansea/Port Talbot area to arrange a golf tournament in aid of the 2021 Festival, consisting of W Bro’s Paul Bunyan, Mahmood Poptani, Philip Osborne, Matthew Sims , Simon Francis and Bros David Matthews and Derryl Rees.

A tournament was arranged for Friday June 5th at Morriston Golf Club, Swansea, and proved to be a great success. It was arranged around a Texas Scramble format for the golf, 4 players to a team, aligning with an evening social event that included a buffet, cabaret, raffle and auction. Also a commerative programme was produced that attracted a large number of sponsors advertising their businesses. These adverts range from Jaguar motor cars to a local tuck shop.

Seventy two players took part in the golf, including the Vice President of the Festival Committee, Very Worshipful Bro. Roy Woodward, DPGM.

However the eventual winners were WB Jeff Hillman and the Rhonda Bogeymen. They shot an excellent 9 under par 58. They received the usual winner’s trophy and also each team member received a top of the range golf bag, graciously donated by W.Bro Gherald Davies.

The social evening was also well supported with over a hundred attending, including an excellent representation from the Events Committee. It was rounded off with an auction which among other items included the bidding for the use of a top of the range Jaguar Motor car for the weekend.

However the most important aspect of the day was that that the entire event raised a sum of £2,750.00 which was donated and presented to WB Dr Akram Baig, the Events  Committee Chairman, towards the 2021 Festival. W.Bro. Dr Akram Baig invited the Vice President V.W.Bro. Roy Woodward, DPG to accept the cheque for the festival.

The DPGM thanked each and everyone who supported the event, including the golfers, sponsors, all those who attended the social evening  and with particular thanks to W.Bro’s Paul Bunyan, Mahmood Poptani, Philip Osborne, Matthew Sims, Simon Francis and Bro’s David Matthews and Derryl Rees.

A good day was had by all and hopefully this event will be repeated on an annual basis.
